Artist Statement
My work represents an interest in large scale formats, historical tributes and personal references. I begin with small gouache studies on paper, where I work out visual ideas and stimuli. The challenge then becomes to translate the colors and shapes of these small-scale studies to a finished painting.
I live near the ocean and the beauty of the natural world and our place in it has been a large source of inspiration for my work. However, another theme I work with relates to the harsher reality of the urban world we live in: car wrecks, plane crashes and natural disasters. I also respond to the chaotic juxtaposition of forms these events create.
I work with both these ideas: the beauty of natural order and the chaos of disorder.
